Probably Domenicoโs young widow, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ฎฬ, wanted it that way, to be closer to her brother Arcangelo who lived on the first floor of the same building. The Cerรน family played an important role in Giacomoโs forming years; in fact, ๐๐ข๐๐จ๐ฅ๐๐จ, ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐จ, was to be generous with moral and material aid. COLLECTION
The Museum collection, created 50 years ago with the foundation of the Museum, is constantly evolving, growing, enriching the rooms of the Museum. It can be placed side by side with the most recent studies on the Maestroโs biography and work to offer the visitor incentives and different knowledge. All this is also possible thanks to private citizens who donate or make available precious memorabilia and documents with loans and commodatum.
EXHIBITION ITINERARY
The itinerary accompanies along the rooms of the birthplace, which today appears as it was at the time when the young Giacomo Puccini lived there.
The restoration of the original subdivision of the rooms has been possible thanks to a precious document preserved in Archivio di Stato di Lucca, Vecchio Catasto sezione C/3 particella 428, datable around 1820, that is the first years in which the Puccini family lived in this house.
A sequence of tests on the walls brought to light pictorial decorations, different from each other but all attributable to the period in which the Maestro lived.
The reopening of two doors and the reconstruction of a wall demolished in the middle of the twentieth century has completed the faithful reconstruction of the Maestroโs house. The decor includes pieces of furniture and paintings that belonged to the Puccini family, as well as antique furnishings purchased at the time of the opening of the museum.

The Villa of Viareggio
Between the late 19th century and early 20th century, Viareggio is a fashionable seaside resortย popular among the wealthy bourgeoisie, nobility, members of the House of Savoia, intellectuals and many artists of the time, such as Gabriele DโAnnunzio, Eleonora Duse, Marta Abba, Luigi Pirandello and Galileo Chini.
The promenade of Viareggio, with its original buildings made of wood, home to bathing establishments, elegant shops, dance halls and chantant cafรฉs, is the centre of high society. The area between the pine forest and the seashore is filled withย small and large villasย and important hotels such as Hotel Principe di Piemonte and the Hotel Excelsior, all featuring Liberty and eclectic styles.ย It is in this historical-cultural setting that Maestro Giacomo Puccini decides to transfer his residence.
In the late 18th century, the Maestro lived in the nearby Torre del Lago, on the banks of Lake Massaciuccoli, first in a rented house, later, from 1900, in a building he owned and renovated to fit his needs.
In the early 20th century, part of Lake Massaciuccoli was purchased by the company Ilva Torbiere dโItalia which built a large turf extraction plant. This led Puccini to move into a new home in Viareggio.
